Offshore Fishing Charters

TUNA, DOLPHIN, AND MARLIN! TUNA, DOLPHIN, AND MARLIN! The Captains of Shore Catch have spent the greater part of their lives chasing pelagic species like tuna, dolphin and marlin and have put hundreds of anglers on their “first” offshore game fish on fly, spin, and conventional. We are one of the only charter operations in the Northeast that specialize in fly and light tackle offshore. This means whatever type of fishing tackle you prefer, we can accommodate you. We have landed countless tuna, marlin, and dolphin on fly tackle and are proud to be one of the only charter operations in the business to have landed tuna over 100 lbs on fly tackle.

During the last ten seasons, we have taken our clients to new levels of saltwater fishing, searching the offshore “deep blue” waters for some of some of the largest and most powerful creatures in the sea. Nothing can match the feeling of a 100 pound “locomotion” TUNA ripping line off your reel at lightning speed. Whether it is in the world class Northeast Canyons, the offshore lumps of Cape May, NJ or fifteen miles off the coast of Manasquan during the famed Bluefin Tuna blitzes, we guarantee this will be a trip you will never forget.

On all of our offshore fishing charters you will be supplied with the industries best blue water fly, spin and conventional tackle. We use fly tackle from Tibor, St. Croix, Rio, Cape Fear and Sage. Our offshore fly rods are from 12 to 19 weight outfits and are sure to tame the most explosive fish around. All of our conventional stand up and trolling outfits are from St Croix, Crowder Rods, and AVET Reels, and we use jig and spin tackle from Shimano and Van Staal. If you choose to use conventional gear to jig, troll, or chunk rest assure that we will not hand you the typical “heavy” charter gear, but rather first class light weight outfits from the very best manufacturers in the industry to ensure a true light tackle feel.

Inshore Tuna and Dolphin

From June to November New Jersey’s inshore and Midshore fishing grounds are teaming with Bluefin Tuna, Skipjack Tuna, Dolphin (Mahi Mahi), Bonito, Albacore, and a wide range of sharks.

Early in the season, during the months of June and July we target Bluefin Tuna with many different techniques depending on your fishing preference. Whether it be casting flies and jigs to massive schools of top water feeding fish, trolling a wide spread of top water lures and baits, or chunking with live and cut baits we will undoubtedly put a smile on your face with heart pounding action!

During the summer and early fall months when the warm core eddies spin into our area, Dolphin (Mahi Mahi), Bonito, Sharks, and Bluefin Tuna become the main targets. Imagine a “lit up” three to four foot blue and green Mahi Mahi tracking your lure or fly in the crystal clear blue waters. This is aerial fishing at its best while visual takes just below the water’s surface turn into heart pounding leaps of truly breathtaking proportions.

During the fall months of September, October and November join us for the superb Bluefin tuna migration as close as ten miles from our Inlet. This is prime time to tackle thirty to sixty pound Bluefin tuna on light tackle or fly gear as chumming live baits behind the boat can easily produce 20 to 30 fish days, all while watching these magnificent creatures crash two feet behind the anchored boat.

The Hi Def video below is an 8 minute compilation of Shore Catch's fantastic 2009 inshore tuna fishing season. Enjoy!
